my must-have beauty products

I am not a beauty blogger or a makeup expert by any means, but I wanted to share my go-to products and get recommendations from anyone else on what they use. I am still learning (slowly) what I should actually be doing to my hair/face/skin/etc. to make it cooperate and look the way I want it to. Somehow, I skipped the phase in high school where I was obsessed with makeup and everything else, and I just didn't touch it until college. For a brief, 5-minute period. Then I decided I'd rather sleep than deal with my face.

I'm back at it for the most part now and I have a routine, sort of. I do have some products I swear by and I wanted to share them!

Not Your Mother's Double Take Dry Finish texture spray | I use a curling wand (when I have time) to manage my waves, which are hard to manage, and I HATE the feel of crunchy hairspray unless I absolutely need everything to stay put. I love this texture spray because it's got a little hold in it but mostly tames frizz and gives my curls more of a beachy texture. Love it!

Batiste Dry Shampoo, original | The ultimate lifesaver, am I right? My hair takes quite a while to dry, so washing it is not a decision I make lightly, especially if it's cold or humid outside. So I reach for this dry shampoo multiple times a day – a few sprays under the top layers of my hair manages any grease or flatness!

Nyx WonderStick | Shoutout to my girl Samantha for helping me highlight on a budget and with absolutely no skill or experience. The WonderStick is AWESOME – one side is for highlighting, one for contouring, and it's perfect for a quick fix on top of my foundation. Sometimes my face looks very gaunt and I need a little boost.

Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation | This foundation is the BOMB. Seriously! It is lightweight, easy to apply and goes a long way. I use an IT Cosmetics stippling brush to apply my foundation and then blend it in with my Bare Minerals concealer stick and Nyx WonderStick highlighter and bronzer using a beauty blender dupe I got from Marshall's.

Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara | I have ALWAYS bought brand name mascara, but I was in a mood and bought this on a whim after my Bare Minerals mascara expired. I have really long eyelashes so mascara is what it is – I don't need much – but I like how this tube feels in my hand and the wand doesn't get nearly as clumpy as others I've used.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores powder | Listen, I often roll my eyes at my mom, but she was helping me pick out a foundation and the lady at the ULTA beauty counter told us about this powder. Mom was all for it and insisted that we get it, even though I wasn't terribly interested. With my CC cream that I was using, the effects were meh, but I notice way more of an airbrushed look with my current foundation!

Bare Minerals eyeshadow in Bare Skin | When I die, I will still be using this same eyeshadow. Never discontinue this color, please. It's all I know.

NYX Photo Loving Primer in green for anti-redness | I love how this primer feels on my skin, and it has the perfect blurring effect to minimize the acne scarring and the redness on my nose and cheeks. And it was so affordable. NYX, take my money.

Not pictured, but equally as important for my day-to-day life...
  • Derma-E Cleanser with marine algae and activated charcoal
  • Clarisonic Mia
  • Yes To Tomatoes charcoal wipes
