island bookstore book haul

Thursday, June 22, 2017
I was just searching for bookstores in the Outer Banks the other night, and yesterday while we were trying to figure out what to do today, Patrick's mom suggested the boys go golfing and we would get manicures and pedicures. The spa was full until Friday, so we wandered over to Island Books.

Of course, it was lovely. I have the hardest time in bookstores – I want everything. It would be pretty difficult to get me to buy clothes or shoes at full price, but books? Well. A different story.

The store was small and messy, but in the best way. I could wander from shelf to shelf and find fiction on top of short stories on top of bestsellers on top of sci-fi on top of middle grade. Every step was a little adventure.

And then we came home and read on the back porch with Theo.

Here's my haul!

I've looked for Alex & Eliza every chance I've had and haven't found it until now. It's been on my library list but I accidentally let it slip through my fingers when it came off of hold by accident and I didn't pick it up in time. I picked up Jonathan Unleashed and read the back cover – how dogs can change your life? You got it – and decided to add it to my pile. It was the one I knew the least about. Eligible was a book everyone was reading when it came out last year (or two years ago?), and I, of course, totally missed it then. I'm always a little bit behind. Words in Deep Blue has a beautiful cover and is a book about books. And then, Wonder. I've always wanted to read it but haven't made the time, and now I simply have to finish it before the movie comes out. Obviously!

If you need me, I'll be catching up on this pile of books.
