[july recap] the one where we moved and put a lot of miles on our cars

Tuesday, August 01, 2017
Oh my GOSH, July. I guess this will be the summer that I barely remember at all because it was such a blur. If you remember correctly, June was also totally crazy. I at least was home way more in July than I was in June, but things were crazy and I put a lot of miles on my car!

On July 6, we found out that Pat got a job with GoHeels.com, UNC's athletic communications department's website, covering UNC sports on all levels. We were so excited – but that also meant we had to orchestrate a move to a new city in about three weeks, knowing that both of us would be out of town for the entire week before he needed to be moved in in Durham.

So, it was wild. But a total blast of a month! And now, we are officially moved in. Farewell, Charlotte!

What I read

This was a quiet month for me. Both of these contemporary YA novels were decent reads – I finished them on the plane, to and from Fort Worth – and both involved very driven athletes, which isn't a mindset I usually get into. But they were pretty good. Not a waste of a read, for sure.

Where I went

I barely traveled in July for work, but that doesn't mean I wasn't constantly on the go – almost always for just a day or two at a time, which is even more exhausting, if you ask me!

• The second week of July, we took a VERY FAST SO FAST WOW SPEEDY FAST day trip to Durham-Raleigh-Chapel Hill for apartment searching. It was at least 500 degrees outside, and we stupidly took Theo because we are stupid, but we toured five apartments and found a fabulous new home!
• And then we moved! So fast. The next Friday, we moved to our apartment in Durham!
• As soon as we got to Durham, we headed back to Charlotte to get rid of our last few pieces of furniture and clean out the apartment.
• I flew to Fort Worth for a blur of two and a half days before coming back to Charlotte to finish cleaning our apartment.

And now, finally, we're starting August in a brand new home!

What I did

We went to TopGolf (twice)! I actually scored points the second time, but the first time was not such a great golf day for me. Although, I'm never actually good at golf, so what else is new?

What I ate

We went back to Linda's on the Friday we went apartment searching! Theo hammed it up with our favorite bartenders and we ate our favorite lunches from there.

And we got dinner at TopGolf! I really loved the chicken and waffle sliders, although my second meal there upset my stomach for our entire move-in day.

I also made a delicious pasta salad that I should've taken a picture of but didn't because I like to make my life harder. I wanted something special for Pat's first day of work to take for lunch, so I mixed together 2 cups of cooked bowtie pasta, one cup of diced turkey (just lunch meat is fine), one red bell pepper, diced, one cup of mozarella cheese and a half cup of Olive Garden Italian dressing. DELICIOUS.

What Theo did

This has been Theo's July in a nutshell.
